David Blacke has been working the signage industry since the age of 14, having started his apprenticeship in Invercargill and later transferring up to Tauranga, where he joined the team at Tony Hill Signs. Dave soon showed his worth and shortly after coming out of his time was made Foreman and has never looked back.
In 1986, with the help of his wife Kim, he started DB Signs Ltd and the rest is history, as they say.
Dave has always been passionate about the industry he loves and enjoys the varied nature of the work. These days he is less hands on with the manufacturing, leaving that to his talented team, and concentrates on sales and design, which are his forte.
He is very excited about the future and relishes all the technological changes.
Terry Woods has been working in the signage industry since the age of 13.
After spending school holidays working for a sign shop in Auckland, he was offered an apprenticeship, which he started at 15.
A few years after completing his apprenticeship, he moved into project management & sales and has had many years managing accounts for some of New Zealand’s largest companies.
With a passion for innovation & technology, he is tasked with helping to keep DB Signs ahead of their competition, ensuring that our clients receive the best signage solutions that meet their requirements, no matter how big or small.
Gemma Gilmer is the daughter of David and Kim Blacke, so has been in the industry, one way and another, all her life. Now at the ripe old age of 28, is a wife and mother, as well as director and head of production at DB Signs.
Gemma is a real team player and has her finger on the pulse of all aspects of the day-to-day running of the workshop. Don’t be deceived by her age, Gemma is a very talented applicator.
Kim Blacke comes from a banking/office administration background. Teaming up with husband David in 1986 to start DB Signs was a perfect marriage of signwriting knowhow and business savvy.
Over the last 30 years DB Signs has gone from strength to strength, in no small part to Kim’s attention to detail and hands on the reins.
The future is bright for this well-oiled team.
